Some openings left in our Fall classes

We still have some openings in our Fall classes so if you know of anyone who would like to be enrolled in the basic classes

  • Intro to PCs -- Tu/Th, Sept 23 & 25 (9:30-11:30a.m.);
  • Beginning Word Processing -- Tu/Th, Sept 30 & Oct 2 (9:30-11:30a.m.);
  • Intro to the Internet -- Tu/Th, Oct 7, 9, 14, & 16 (9:30-11:30a.m.);
  • Basic Email -- Tu/Th, Oct 21 & 23 (9:30-11:30a.m.)
OR in the intermediate classes

  • Movies, Slideshows, and MORE! -- Tu/Th, Oct 7 & 9 (1:30-3:30p.m.);
  • Understanding Digital Cameras -- Thursdays, Oct 16 & 23 (1:30-3:30p.m.);
  • Create a Calendar -- Tu, Oct 21 (1:30-3:30) plus future date(s) to be determined at class

OR in the program

  • How to Buy a Computer (and other digital devices) for Christmas -- Wed, Nov 5 (6:30-8:30p.m.)

The openings are limited and you MUST have confirmation from me that you are in the class (if you attended last week's signup and your name was put on the list, you are already confirmed). We'd love to have people in the spaces that are remaining.

Fall Computer Class Schedule

At long last, here it is: The Fall Schedule of Computer Classes.
Tomorrow, September 11th is the signup: from 10:30a.m. to 2:00p.m. in the Computer Lab at the Fort Smith Public Library (3201 Rogers Avenue).
These are the classes that will be available this fall:

BASIC CLASSES:
Meet Your Mouse

Tuesday, September 16 (9:30-11:30a.m.)
Learn how to operate a computer mouse in a VERY informal and fun class with lots of hands-on practice using computer games. Take this class if you are NOT comfortable with using a mouse.

Fun and Games
Thursday, September 18 (9:30-11:30a.m.)
Another class to take if you are NOT yet comfortable with using a mouse. In addition to learning some very basic computer skills, it will be very useful in the other introductory classes.

Intro to Personal Computers
Tu/Th, Sept 23, 25 (9:30-11:30a.m.)
Intended for students who have little or no knowledge of computers; emphasis will be on learning to interact with the computer using keyboard and mouse. We will cover Windows XP not Vista.

Beginning Word Processing
Tu/Th, Sept 30, Oct 2 (9:30-11:30a.m.)

Intended for students who have completed Intro to PCs (above); learn more about how to use a keyboard to type, change, and enhance your documents (letters, poems, the great American novel, even recipes!).

Introduction to the Internet
Tu/Th, Oct 7, 9, 14, 16 (9:30-11:30a.m.)
A beginning course in using the Internet intended for those students who have completed Intro to PCs with knowledge of the keyboard and mouse. Learn how to "surf" the web and use Search Engines to find information; learn to download programs, pictures, etc.

Basic Email
Tu/Th, October 21, 23 (9:30-11:30a.m.)
Intended for students who have completed Intro to PCs and Intro to the Internet. Learn general techniques of using email using Yahoo! Email.

INTERMEDIATE CLASSES:
Movies, Slideshows, and so much MORE!
Tuesdays, October 7, 9 (1:30-3:30p.m.)
Intended for students with basic computer skills. Learn how to turn those pictures and videos into slideshows and movies…all using software that comes FREE with your Windows PC.

Understanding Digital Cameras
Thursdays, October 16, 23 (1:30-3:30p.m.)
Did you buy a digital camera and now you wonder what you were thinking? Yes, it’s similar to a film camera but different as well. Get an introduction to the digital world of photography. Bring your camera to class.

Creating a Calendar
Tuesday, October 21 (1:30-3:30p.m.)
Bring your pictures and your ideas for a personalized calendar to enjoy or to be given as an extra-special Christmas gift to be cherished forever. Intended for students with basic computer skills. We’ll meet once to start the process then set up times to to complete your special calendar.

How to Buy a Computer for Christmas
Wednesday, November 5 (6:30-8:30p.m.)
Not sure where to start? Before making such a major purchase, you will want to do your homework. What do you look for? What doesn’t matter at all? We have some tips to make your search a little less intimidating.

Fall Class Sign Up

River Valley Seniors' Computer Class Signup
Special September 2008 program: Thursday, September 11th @ 10:30a.m.
River Valley Seniors, formerly known as SeniorNet, will be holding their Fall Computer Class Signup from 10:30a.m. - 2:00p.m. in the Computer Lab at the Main Library. These classes will concentrate on computer skills for beginner adults, with an emphasis on instruction for students over 50. The classes are FREE but space is limited, so advanced registration is required at the times listed above.
